In 1998, Ben Fry, later co-developer of the Processing language, created a simple online game of "Hand Simon" for John Maeda's Numeric Photography course.

The original was written in Java, the programming language of choice for interactive graphics at the time. In 1995 JavaScript was designed by Brendan Eich while at Netscape to create an alternative language to be built-in to the brower. Fast-forward to today (2016):

Thibaut Courouble's devdocs.io, is a very well made and useful set of references for web languages, including HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Plus, it can be downloaded/cached within the browser to make it available offline.

Start with making some images
